DOUBLE TAKE MADE IN MALAYSIA
"THE LARGEST JAZZ CONCERT BY A DUO"

THIS ATTEMPT IS ENDORSED BY THE MALAYSIA BOOK OF RECORDS, SUPPORTED BY THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE, ARTS AND HERITAGE AND IS IN SUPPORT OF MAKNA

In a country that has embraced a multiracial lifestyle, it’s no wonder that we have become multifaceted in many aspects of our lives. We tend to view things from angles that would have seemed far-fetched not too long ago, and often find contentment in having not just one but several opinions on the one topic. Having said that, it is also no wonder that Malaysians are generally hard to please, even more so when it comes to music.

It is with this in mind that Double Take has decided to take a step further, not only in educating Malaysians about music genres (and how multiracial they are), but also to instigate a new vibe for generations, old and young alike.

Musically inclined and imaginative visionaries, Double Take will be taking a more adventurous approach to create Malaysian music history. With their upbeat charisma, Mia Palencia and Roger Wang will attempt to not only create a name for themselves but to also instil patriotism in more ways than one this year. With endorsement by the Malaysia Book of Records, the duo will work hard to achieve their dreams, which include encouraging and inspiring patriotism among the country’s youth through the medium of music. Their project will also help to excite and induce collective community effort, adding value to all young, talented and capable musicians.

The ‘project’, which will be held on the 11th of December this year, will take place at Stadium Negara, amidst feedback and concerns over the acoustics, however, an appropriate venue for their cause. Under the category of Arts and Entertainment, Double Take will be attempting the Malaysian record for “The Largest Jazz Concert by a Duo”, hoping to bring in a capacity audience of 10,000 people. Through this, they will also attempt to gain global recognition, thereby placing Malaysian jazz musicians into the international jazz circuit. All of this will be done especially for the honour of Malaysia and her community through music.

Both guitarist and vocalist understand that this is no easy feat. To ensure that the event will be a success, an all-out work schedule for the next 45 days has already been executed. Double Take will be promoting the concert through various means, including the launch of their new Christmas Album on the 7th of November in Kota Kinabalu, and on the 11th and 12th of November in Kuala Lumpur. They will also be recruiting fans (and audience) through road shows, showcases and by placing advertising material at schools, colleges, universities, cafes, etc. Advertisements will also emerge on banners and buntings at strategic locations to encourage and inspire community support.

Our neighbour Singapore has invited Double Take to share and introduce their music and goals on the 19th of November at the Club Street Culinary and Jazz Festival.

Globally, Double Take will be writing and sending information to all international jazz associations and music societies throughout the world, bringing a new and well deserved meaning to ‘around the world’. On local turf, the duo will continue to engage support and sponsorship from our government, corporate bodies and media such as TV and radio will also be approached in order to attain maximum exposure through aggressive publicity, all for a patriotic cause. Besides that, Production of limited edition merchandise in the form of T-shirts, guitar picks, etc. will be launched to create excitement and pride for our country.

With a dynamic blend of passion, patriotism and a wholehearted desire to see dreams come true, Double Take and The Largest Jazz Concert by a Duo will demonstrate the true meaning of living in Malaysia, where it is not just the season to give presents and spread joy, but also to take time to share aspirations that will last all seasons and open our hearts to chapters of bravery and pride for Malaysia, in Malaysia and with Malaysia.

When that dream comes true and that moment lived in, the crowd will be cheering for beautiful music and also the awe in being among the thousands of people in our country to take one small step for Malaysia and one giant leap for our lives. Here’s to that standing ovation.
